The Cardio Wellness Charity, a Voluntary Organisation was set up in 2004 to raise awareness through the provision of support, education and practical advice on the health risks associated with Coronary Heart Disease, Diabetes, Smoking and Tobacco Chewing. In addition Cardio Wellness is focusing on Childhood Obesity and Diabetes and is aiming to actively promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity as a means of empowering Children and young people with the right information to get active and remain healthy and fit for life.
The Cardio Wellness Charity reaches out to target those people in society who are deemed to be at highest risk.
South Asians are known to have a predominantly higher risk of developing heart disease and diabetes than the white European Population. In addition, consumption of oral tobacco is a social norm amongst sections of this population, particularly Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi.
A government Priority and fundamental to our approach is childhood obesity and the reduction of risk factors in later life, particularly within those communities with other social and educational needs.
People with a learning or physical disability are often excluded from mainstream programmes on health education, and yet are more susceptible to obesity and diabetes because of their disabilities and the need to rely on others for their care.
